4 days trekking to the Ala Kul lake

The Ala Kul lake is a popular destination in Kyrgyzstan, touristy but the lake is amazing nice, from the Karakol valley to Altyn Arashan valley. The program will start at Manas airport in Bishkek, and finish in Karakol. The trek can start also from Karakol.

Issyk Kul

D 1 / Manas International Airport - Karakol

Arrival to Bishkek airport. Meeting in the airport, transfer to Bishkek, breakfast. Transfer to Karakol (400 km). The road lies over picturesque Booms Canyon, along the coastline of the beautiful Issyk-Kul lake; it's second biggest mountain’s lake in the world. Check in hotel or guesthouse. Rest and acclimatization.

D 2 / Karakol valley Teleti East - Sirota camp

Descent by admiring air purity of Kel-Tor to the junction Karakol gorge. We descend by the throat until the Kourgak-Tor gorge. Through this gorge we climb up Sirota (alone) - is a wooden hut isolated trekkers built by local guides and porters. Night in the forest near Sirota (2900 m).

D 3 / Sirota camp - Altyn Arashan valley

After the meal we continue to climb up the pearl of gorge Karakol  - the lake Ala-Kul. This lake is known for its depth, color and its location 3500 m. The color of lake changes turquoise to purple. It mounts to the Ala-Kul pass (3860 m). We can see the pass Karakol peak (5216 m), Djiguit (5170 m), Oguz-Bashy (5168 m). Descent to the gorge Altyn-Arashan. Long descent but easy. Arrival at refuge source of hot water. Swimming in the hot spring. Night in the refuge.

D 4 / Ala-Kul lake - Altyn Arashan valley

The path, difficult hike up a scree to the neck Ala-Kul to 3890 meters. From the pass, the view is absolutely magnificent lake and surrounding peaks. Descend to the colorful canyon Keldike camp in the valley of Altyn Arashan.

D 5 / Altyn Arashan valley - Karakol

Descend through the piste. Our vehicle waits us near the first bridge at the entrance of the gorge. Transfer to Karakol, check into a guest house.

Remarks:

Since July 27, 2012, the visa is not any more required for the persons of Swiss, EU, US, Canadian and Japanese nationalities (in total 44 new countries, for more information visit nomadsland.kg); passport should be with minimum of 6 months validity for period of 60 days maximum. Vaccination is not mandatory.

Though Kyrgyzstan evidenced caravans over 3000 years it is still a young developing country and infrastructure of villages is not at a very high level. Refusing hospitality might be offensive and in order to avoid misunderstanding one had better to read some guidebooks and other books about Kyrgyzstan before getting prepared to visit.
