10 days ski-touring in Kyrgyzstan

A short winter program which allow you to ski on the Terskey Alatoo, part of the Issyk Kul region. Slopes are easy and on wide meadows. The first half of the program, you will ski at Siuttu Bulak, high pastures located between the Jeti Oguz valley and the Chong Kyzyl Suu valley. After short visit of Karakol, we move to the far East of the Kyrgyzia, in the village of the coal mine of Jergalan.

Issyk Kul

D 1 / Bishkek - Kyzyl Suu village

After breakfast, we will drive to Lake Issyk-Kul (1608 m). Did you know that Lake Issyk-Kul is the 2nd largest alpine lake in the world?  After lunch, we will arrive in the village of Kyzyl Suu / Pakrovka which is the regional center of the Jeti-Oguz district.  Our hosts will great us and we will spend the night in a guesthouse. 

Additional options for today: Visit of Burana tower, great of history loves; hiking in Konorchek canyon, great for trekking all year round; rafting in Chuy river, is great for adventure-seeking group of friends; visit a yurt maker in the village of Kyzyl Tuu, it's great option for someone looking to get close to the local culture; visit an Eagle Hunter or enjoy an Eagle hunting show to get an impression of the nomadic history of Kyrygz people; visit of Skazka canyon, to enjoy the trekking possibilities; visit of Barskoon valley and its three waterfalls it's best for nature lovers.

D 2 / Kyzyl Suu village - Siuttu Bulak

After an early breakfast, you will depart to Siuttu Bulak where your Yurt Camp will be built and you can gear up and head into the mountains.
First check to make sure everyone has all of their safety equipment and check the condition of the snow and then make a plan for the day.
The rest of the day will be spent in the mountains.
Lunch in the mountains.
At the end of the day head back to the base camp where dinner will be ready.

D 3 / Ski touring at Siuttu Bulak

Siuttu Bulak means in Kyrgyz the "milky springs". Mountains of Siuttu Bulak offers you a wide choice of tracks, a mix of forest and long meadows. Our yurt camp is situated at the altitude of 2650 meters. The highest peak is at 3628 meters and the longest descent is ~6km of fresh powder.

After an early breakfast, you can gear up and head into the mountains.
First check to make sure everyone has all of their safety equipment and check the condition of the snow and then make a plan for the day.
The rest of the day will be spent in the mountains.
Lunch in the mountains.
At the end of the day head back to the base camp where dinner will be ready.

D 4 / 2nd day ski touring at Siuttu Bulak

Holy Trinity Cathedral in Karakol

D 5 / Siuttu Bulak - Jergalan

With an alpine start, we will be able to start ski touring from the Yurt camp.  Lunch will be provided at the Yurt camp and then we will be transferred to the town of Karakol.  We will be able to have a walk through the town and see a few of the highlights of the old Soviet town.  Later in the afternoon, we will be able to have a quick stop in the village of Ak-Suu where we can dip into the hot springs to relax our muscles from all the touring we have been doing.  Then we will depart to the small village of Jergalan where we will spend the night with a local family.

D 6 / Ski touring in Jergalan

After an early breakfast, you will gear up and head into the mountains.
First check to make sure everyone has all of their safety equipment and check the condition of the snow and then make a plan for the day.
The rest of the day will be spent in the mountains.
Lunch in the mountains.
At the end of the day head back to the base camp where dinner will be ready.

The Jergalan Village

D 7 / 2nd day skiing in Jergalan

After an early breakfast, you will gear up and head into the mountains.
First check to make sure everyone has all of their safety equipment and check the condition of the snow and then make a plan for the day.
The rest of the day will be spent in the mountains.
Lunch in the mountains.
At the end of the day head back to the base camp where dinner will be ready.

Issyk Kul

D 8 / Jargalan - Bishkek

With an alpine start, we will head into the mountains near the guesthouse and earn our turns.  
First, check to make sure everyone has all of their safety equipment and check the condition of the snow and then make a plan for the day.
An early lunch will be had at the guesthoues in the mountains. 
After lunch, we will be transferred back to Bishkek where we will spend the night in a guesthouse.

Bishkek

D 9 / Visit of Bishkek

We will meet at 8 am at your guesthouse.  We will start our walking tour of Bishkek at the Frunze museum, which we will head thought he Panfilov Park, to Ala Too Square, Frunze museum in Oak Park, with a stop at the Museum of Fine Arts, then we will head to Victory square where we will have a traditional lunch.  In the afternoon we will visit Osh bazar where you will be able to get close to local people and buy some souvenirs.  We will be able to enjoy dinner at a traditional restaurant where we will be able to sample many dishes.  After dinner, we will be transferred back to the guesthouse.

 

Manas International Airport

D 10 / Bishkek - Manas International Airport

Depending on your flight time, your guide will join you to the airport and help you check in for your flight.  If your flight is later in the day your guide will show you more places in Bishkek before your flight.

Remarks:

Since July 27, 2012, the visa is not any more required for the persons of Swiss, EU, US, Canadian and Japanese nationalities (in total 44 new countries, for more information visit nomadsland.kg); passport should be with minimum of 6 months validity for period of 60 days maximum. Vaccination is not mandatory.

Though Kyrgyzstan evidenced caravans over 3000 years it is still a young developing country and infrastructure of villages is not at a very high level. Refusing hospitality might be offensive and in order to avoid misunderstanding one had better to read some guidebooks and other books about Kyrgyzstan before getting prepared to visit.
