Transhumance Trip with Kyrgyz Shepherds
From May 2nd to May 10th - 800$ / person - 6 persons maximum
Are you looking for a unique adventure??? At Nomad's Land we really love organizing unique trips, in the closest possible collaboration with the local families.
From the end of April till the beginning of June, the Kyrgyz shepherds leave their villages to go to the Jailoo (pastureland), together with their families, livestock, yurt, furniture, and basically everything. It is a party time for the families and the villages come back to life after the freezing winter months.
This year, we propose you to join this event and to participate in the moving to the Jailoo with one family from At-Bashy village to Kok Kyia, next to Kel Suu lake.
Program (could be modified due to the "shepherd factor'):
02/05 Day 1: Bishkek - At Bashy
Meeting at 8.00 am for departure. 6 hrs drive to At-Bashy village, in the region of Naryn. We eventually arrive at the house of Meder and his family, with whom we will do the transhumance the next days. Night in a common room in their house.
03/05 Day 2: At Bashy
Today, we have an important briefing together with the family to define the roles and responsibilities of everyone during the transhumance. We also take time to get to know the family better, participate to their daily life tasks and discover the village. Last preparation for departure the next day, loading the truc etc...
Night in a common room in their house.
04/05 - 07/05 Day 3 - Day 6
We prepare the last stuff to be taken, saddle the horses and leave the village together with the livestock.
During these 4 days, we ride around 120km and pass by wonderful sceneries, pine tree forests, high mountain passes, desolated steppes, together with the livestock constituted of maybe 700 sheep, horses, and cows.
We enter the border zone with China and have to show our special permits to enter the area.
Every evening, we build the camp, light a fire, have dinner and sleep in tents.
At the end of the transhumance, we arrive at the jailoo next to Kel Suu lake.
